In Remembrance...
Today is Remembrance Day in Canada, I am not sure if it is celebrated today or with the same name else where in the world or not but I felt it necessary to put together a little something in honor of all of our brave troops past and present.
Listening to the local radio today I heard them asking listeners to vote on their polls as to whether or not they do anything at all for Remembrance Day, and I have to say I was shocked to hear that so far only 60% of people had responded yes to this question! Even if it is only a moment of silence, I believe that everyone should be able to answer yes to that question.
In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
